Ustaz Jamilu Mu’azu Haidara

Biography

Born in August 1963 in the historic town of Kauran Namoda, Zamfara State, Ustaz Jamilu hails from the renowned Haidara family, a lineage deeply rooted in Islamic scholarship, moral discipline, and community leadership. In keeping with the rich traditions of his environment, he began his Islamic education at a very early age, undergoing rigorous training in Qur’anic studies, jurisprudence, and classical Islamic sciences. This early foundation shaped his lifelong commitment to the service of Islam and the Muslim Ummah.

Alongside his traditional education, Ustaz Jamilu pursued Western education, equipping himself with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate both religious and contemporary spheres. He initially built a career in the banking sector, where he demonstrated diligence, integrity, and professionalism, before voluntarily transitioning into private business, where he has continued to thrive.

From his formative years, Ustaz Jamilu distinguished himself as a committed Islamic activist. His involvement in Islamic propagation and youth development dates back to the 1970s and 1980s, a period marked by the rise of organized Muslim student movements in Nigeria. He emerged as one of the key figures dedicated to nurturing young Muslims, investing his time, knowledge, and resources in mentoring generations of youth and guiding them towards purposeful Islamic living.

He played a significant and enduring role in the formation, consolidation, and expansion of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), contributing to its growth into one of the most influential Muslim youth organizations in the country. His mentorship has impacted countless individuals who have gone on to become leaders in various sectors, a testament to his vision and dedication.

Ustaz Jamilu is also a distinguished founding member of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria (SCSN), where he has remained a steadfast pillar since its inception. His role in the establishment of the Council reflects his foresight and commitment to institutionalizing the defense and promotion of Shariah and the collective interests of Muslims in Nigeria. Over the years, he has continued to provide guidance, support, and strategic input, reinforcing the Council’s mission and strengthening its impact.
