Biography

Sheikh Abdulfattah Thaani is a distinguished Islamic scholar, administrator, and prominent leader within the Muslim community in Southwestern Nigeria, particularly in Lagos State. He is widely respected for his intellectual depth, organizational leadership, and longstanding commitment to the advancement of Islam and the protection of Muslim interests in Nigeria.

Sheikh Abdulfattah Thaani emerged as an influential figure within contemporary Islamic scholarship and institutional leadership in Nigeria through decades of active engagement in Da‘wah, community development, and scholarly coordination. Based in Lagos, one of the most vibrant centres of Islamic activity in the country, he has played a pivotal role in fostering unity among scholars and strengthening organized Islamic platforms across the Southwest and beyond.

He is a leading figure in the Council of Ulamah of Nigeria, where he has served in various strategic capacities, including Acting President and later as a key national coordinator. In these roles, he has provided guidance on religious matters, facilitated scholarly consensus, and contributed to policy discussions affecting the Nigerian Muslim Ummah.

Sheikh Thaani is also recognized as one of the founding members of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria (SCSN), a foremost Islamic organization established to promote the implementation of Shariah for Muslims within the constitutional framework of Nigeria. As a pioneer of the Council, he has remained actively involved in its growth, advocacy, and institutional consolidation, contributing to its emergence as a central voice for Muslim affairs in Nigeria.
